What
are Reprint Rights?
There
a number of different types of rights to sell a product. However,
in this article we will only be covering two, resale rights
and master reprint rights. These are by far the most popular
ways of selling or buying information products on the internet.
Reprint Rights
Reprint
rights are often called resale rights, but basically it is
the same thing. For clarity from here on in I will refer to
them as reprint rights.
When
you obtain reprint rights, not only due you buy the product,
you have the right to sell
the product to your customers. Not only that, but you actually
get to keep 100% of the profits from the sale. You take over
the whole process of marketing and selling the product. When
an order comes in you process, duplicate and distribute the
order yourself and you get to keep all the profits.
For example, you owned the reprint rights to an electronic
ebook, you would take the order, have it digitally delivered
from your own website and then bank 100% of the profits. How
easy is that?
In the past it wasn't always this easy. There was a huge disadvantage
in gaining reprint rights, as usually they had a fairly large
premium markup price on them. Most products you could have
paid up 25 times the actual retail price of the product for
the rights to sell it. Digital products were on the high end
of the scale at 20 to 25 times the price, while audio's and
videos were usually closer to the 10 times value level. Thankfully
this is no longer the case. You now get reprint rights to
most products for the retail cost when you buy them. This
is a strategy known as viral marketing
and we will discuss this at a later stage.
Master
Reprint Rights
Master
Reprint rights go one step further than normal reprint rights.
With reprint rights you only have the right to sell the product.
While you still get to keep all the profits, you can't pass
on the rights for your customers to sell the product. Master
reprint rights not only allows you sell the product and keep
100% of the profits, but you also have permission from the
creator to pass on the reprint rights to you customer so that
they can also resell the product.
Whilst
it is best to have master reprint rights to a product to allow
you to gain maximum profits from your efforts, not all products
have master reprint rights. Sometimes when a person creates
a new product they will not issue reprint straight away. What
they will do is offer you an opportunity to join their affiliate
program to promote the product and drive traffic to their
website. When a person you referred buys the product, you
receive a commission on the sale, normally between 10% to
50%.
When
Should You Buy Reprint Rights?
Reprint Rights To Get Started Online
I bought a low cost reprint rights license to get started
online and it gave me a good foundation to start with. The
product was already created and I received sales material
to go with it (I couldn't write an ad worth a flip in the
beginning).
You may find the same method will work for you? However, a
word of caution. Don't buy something just because someone
says it is the best opportunity ever. The internet is this
littered with these types of products and a lot of them are
nothing but pure junk. However,
Avoid this type of hype when buying reprint rights. As a beginner,
try to find a product you would want to buy yourself. Like
most things, if you dig hard enough and carry out investigations
you can find some diamonds.
Owning a product that you bought rights to can give you a
good start. Most all products with reprint rights come with
their own website and sales letter. So you won't have to worry
about writing ads or creating a product, not at first anyhow.
You can jump right in, get your feet wet and start learning
about online marketing. Your first product probably won't
make you rich, but it will give you experience for all of
your later projects!
Reprint Rights For Back End Products
Ok, you bought your first product and it's making money, great
stuff. But, what about after you sold the product (the backend)?
All direct marketers know the real profits of business do
not come from your first sale to a customer. They come from
continually selling over and over to the same customers.
You can expand your product line by purchasing more reprint
rights to high quality products. This will help you generate
additional cash flow from your prospects and customers.
In many cases, this is a better direction to take than selling
a product you bought rights to up front. One of the reasons
that an author sells rights to his product is to generate
leads for other products they sell. Very rarely, if ever,
are you allowed to remove the contact info of a product you
bought rights to. So, selling their product does generate
other backend sales for them.
For
example, when someone creates an ebook they advertise other
associated products within the book via links or banners.
When you purchase reprint rights to the ebook, you have the
right to resell the ebook, but you can't change any of the
advertising links or banners advertised in the ebook. So every
time you sell the ebook you are promoting the other products
mentioned, which in turn creates more sales for the author.
This is what is known as viral marketing and is a highly successful
method creating huge backend profits.
For the master reprint rights buyer, owning a successful product
is the perfect way to start your business or as an extension
to your existing business.
