Hi Friend,

First of all let me wish a belated Happy Easter to
those who celebrated it. I hope you found plenty
of Easter eggs in your basket and had the chance to spend
some quality time with your family or loved ones during the
holidays... if you had any :-)

This week we continue the theme we started last week and
focus on another method of driving targeted traffic to your
website. This is not a 'quick fix' by any stretch of the
imagination but it is without doubt the number one method
of driving highly responsive traffic to your site on the
net.

Of course we're referring to search engine traffic and if
you haven't yet got a strategy in place to increase your
traffic using the search engines then you are missing out
on HUGE profits. You can drive hundreds of unique visitors
a day to your website every day if you get gain a good
ranking and this demands that you at least try.

It may seem at first that you are wasting your time,
but if you can start grabbing a share of the millions of
surfers every day then you'll soon find that the rewards
can be EXTREMELY beneficial to your business.

Optimizing Your Website for a High Search Engine Ranking

Not so long ago search engine rankings were determined by
measuring keyword density, page length and other hard to
measure factors.

However with the advent of theme-based content websites
and the advancement of search engines, such as Google etc,
it's now a whole new ball game. Now when you optimize a
website it's keyword relevance, density and link popularity
that make the difference.

But it's not as daunting as some would have you believe.
If you follow some simple rules and stick to the basic
formula everything will fall into place.

The number one mistake that newbies make is trying to
focus on one single keyword, such as "internet", or on a
keyword phrase such as "internet marketing. They then
attempt to create a website that will have a high search
engine ranking for these keywords.

Well I'm afraid that in 99% of the cases it ain't gonna
happen. Common keyword phrases are ultra competitive and
very difficult to get a high search engine ranking. Anyway
it would be hardly worth the trouble in the first place
because the visitors you receive may not be specifically
interested in your product.

Think about it for a minute.

After spending hundreds of hours tweaking and perfecting
your site you finally manage to get a #1 ranking for
"internet business". But unless your site specifically
caters for all the hundreds of different types of internet
businesses available on the internet, a substantial amount
of your traffic will come from people who are not
interested in what you have to offer.

As a result your reward for all your hard work and effort
may be a big fat zero :-(

So how do you deal with this problem?

Take time to sit down and make a list of at least 6 major
keywords that best describes your website. This will be
your keyword 'base' and it should contain mostly single
keywords with perhaps a couple of commonly used keyword
phrases mixed in.

Whilst you won't use these keywords to optimize your
website it will help you define the type of visitors you're
targeting and will form the backbone of your optimization
strategy.

Your next step should be to research a list of keyword
phrases using your keyword 'base' as a starting point. You
need to develop a list of two or three keyword phrases
under each major keyword, that will attract the bulk of
your website traffic.

Simple enter your 'base' keyword or phrase and check out
the results for phrases that best describe the visitors you
are targeting.

You will also see the number of searches at Overture
for this phrase in the past month. This will give
you an indication on whether this phrase is generating
enough traffic to consider it viable to try to target.

Try to build a list of at least 20 keyword phrases for
your site, but don't be to worried if you can't think of
them immediately as it will continue to grow as go.

For example if one of your major keywords was 'internet
business', you could use 'start an internet business', 'opt
in email list', 'make money on the internet', 'increase
website traffic' etc.

There are a large number of books out there that claim to
know all the secrets of the search engines. But before you
fork out your hard earned cash and purchase one you need to
be award that they can become outdated very quickly.

Some search engines continually change their logarithms
to what seems like every second week. So trying to keep up
with them yourself can be like the Coyote trying to catch
the Road Runner. Just when you think you've got it all
worked out... well you know the rest! What you buy today
may well be out of date by next week.

Protecting your Email Address From Website Spammers

With the number of viruses and the amount of spam flying
around the net today it is important that you limit the
opportunities that vermin and spammers have of obtaining
your email address.

The most obvious place to start is your website as this
is by far the most vunerable to email harversting, which
is a process that spammers use to crawl your site to
illegally obtain your email contact details.

What you should be doing is cloaking your email address
so that it deters this practice, which in turn will limit
the amount of spam you receive. It certainly won't totally
eliminate it but every bit helps!

Below is a simple encryption code that you can insert
into your webpages. This will cloak your email address
from the email harvesting programs while still allowing
your visitors to contact you with any queries they may have.

It's just a matter of altering the text in between the
" " of the var showlink, var showname and var showhost
sections to reflect your own details and then pasting the
code into your webpage where ever you want your email link
to appear.

For example if your email address was
fred@make-money-online.com and you wanted Click Here to
Email Us to appear in place of your email link then your
code would look like this:
